The Manhasset Boys varsity lacrosse team has overcome extreme adversity to reach today’s position. The team has catapulted themselves into an opportunity at yet another state championship. The team’s current record is 15-5, but they have been peaking at the perfect moment. It all began with a match at Garden City that would send Manhasset into the Nassau County Finals. Manhasset pulled out a thrilling overtime win over their hated rival. Next, Manhasset was faced with a Lynbrook, the team that eliminated Manhasset last year and that had beaten them previously this season. However, Manhasset upset the higher seeded Lynbrook 9-6. Finally, the Long Island Championship game. Manhasset trailed 6-3 early in the fourth quarter. A magical comeback was needed, and it was miraculously provided. The Indians finished the game on a 4-0 run capped off by a game winner from Matt Gavin with under 30 seconds left. Manhasset had never led in the game all night until that moment. The unlikely comeback has given Manhasset a chance to win another state championship.
