MLB Opening Day 4/2/17

The Major League Baseball Season commenced today, April 2nd, with many teams hopeful for the upcoming season. This years favorites include the Chicago Cubs who are coming off their first title in over 100 years and the Boston Red Sox who lost to the Indians in the Division Series of the playoffs last year.
The first game of the season was played by the local New York Yankees against the Tampa Bay Rays. Starting pitchers Chris Archer of the Rays and Mashahiro Tanaka of the Yankees dueled with Tanaka giving up 7 runs in a rough 2.2 innings. The score was brought to 7-2 by the end of the third inning and neither team scored until the Yankees managed a sacrifice fly in the 9th inning bringing the game to its final score of 7-3.
Following the Yankees tough start to the season, the Diamondbacks took on the Giants where starting pitcher, Madison Bumgarner hit 2 home runs on his opening day marking a league first. Despite these efforts, the Giants ultimately lost by a score of 5-6 to the Diamondbacks. Later today, the World Series Champion Chicago Cubs will take on their rivals, the Saint Louis Cardinals in their season opener. It will be interesting to see how the season plays out as the Major League Baseball Season gets under way
