Manhasset Wins Long Island Basketball Championship

Luke Bakshandeh

Manhasset basketball mania continues, as the Indians capture their first Long Island Championship in over a decade. In a tough gritty game at Nassau Coliseum in front of a huge crowd, Manhasset won the Long Island championship defeating Suffolk County Champions Wyandanch
85-69. Manhasset scored the first 2 points of the game only to fall behind by as many as 8 points early in
the first quarter. The boys had to dig deep and with cool heads, hot shooting, tough team defense,                                                                              and gritty second shot rebounds they finished the first half down by only 2 points.

With great half time coaching and even more determination, the team came out blazing in the third
quarter. They systematically broke down the relentless Wyandanch full court and half court press.
Senior John Mastando had the hottest hand of the night and led all scorers. Senior Thomas Santella contributed with second shots, rebounds, and gritty defense. However, every player including Senior Louis Perfetto, Sophomore Ahmad Crowell, Senior Chris Themelis, and Senior Joe Locurto scored, rebounded and contributed to a historic team win for Manhasset. Manhasset scored 32 points in
the last quarter of the game.

The next step will be in Binghamton where the remaining final four teams from New York State will
compete in a weekend-long tournament. GO SET!!!!!!!!
