LaVar Ball, the outspoken father of Lonzo (currently plays for the Los Angeles Lakers), LiAngelo (UCLA Basketball), and LaMelo (committed to play for UCLA), believed that Trump was not involved in LiAngelo’s safe departure out of China without being criminally charged.

“Who?” Lavar Ball said in an interview when asked about President Trump’s involvement in the situation. “What was he over there for? Don’t tell me nothing. Everybody wants to make it seem like he helped me out.”

President Trump fired back at LaVar Ball on Twitter: “Now that the three basketball players are out of China and saved from years in jail, LaVar Ball, the father of LiAngelo, is unaccepting of what I did for his son and that shoplifting is no big deal. I should have left them in jail!”

LiAngelo Ball and his teammates, Jalen Hill and Cody Riley, were arrested of suspected shoplifting from a Louis Vuitton store while in China with the rest of the UCLA basketball team. President Trump, who was in the middle of a tour in Asia, raised the case with China’s President, Xi Jinping, and the three players were allowed to return to the United States without being charged.
