Cozy up Manhasset Indians! Although the weather has been warmer than usual this past September, do not be saddened by the lacking sweater weather iconic to the pairing of hot apple cider and pumpkin pie!

Instead, take advantage of your upcoming Columbus Day vacation and take a trip to an apple orchard! Have your pick from varieties like the sweet Shizuka apples and the tart Cameo apples at one of these pick-your-own farms perfect for a fall family activity.

Fort Saratoga Farms

About a 1 hour drive from Manhasset. 30 Meadow Glen Rd, Northport. 631-269-9666 10 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday-Sunday. This location is the closest to Manhasset and very accessible to children with their dwarf varieties of apple trees!

Windy Acres Farm

About 1 hour and 40 minutes drive from Manhasset. 3810 Middle Country Rd, Calverton. 631-727-4554. 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. Local fruits, vegetables, and pumpkins are also available along with tractor rides and playgrounds to keep the children having fun the entire trip!

Lewin Farms

About 1 hour and 50 minute drive from Manhasset. 812 Sound Ave, Calverton. 631-929-4327. 9 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. daily. Pumpkin, corn, berries, and other seasonal crops are readily sold at their farm stand. It is encouraged to give them a call to confirm their opening on certain days!

Woodside Orchards

About 1 hour an 50 minute drive from Manhasset. 729 Main Rd, Aquebogue and 116 Manor Lane, Jamesport. 631-722-5770. 10 a.m.-5 p.m. daily at Aquebogue location; same time on Saturday and Sunday at Jamesport location. Pumpkins and an interactive corn mazes are available along with cider-tasting. Semi-dwarf varieties of apple trees are available in twenty eight different types of delicious fruits.

Hank’s Pumpkintown

About a 2 hour drive from Manhasset. 240 Montauk Hwy, Watermill. 631-726-4667. $25 per 10-lb bag. 9:30 a.m.-6 p.m. Saturdays and Sundays. A corn maze, corn train, duck race, and farm stand is readily available for entertainment along with 14 different varieties of apples.

Harbes Family Farm and Orchard

About a 2 hour drive from Manhasset. 5698 Sound Ave, Riverhead. 631-369-1111. $10-$22. 9 a.m.-6 p.m. every weekend in September and October. Long corn mazes. vineyard wines, homemade caramel, candied apples, and cider donuts are available along with 27 different varieties of apples.

Milk Pail Farm and Orchard

About a 2 hour drive from Manhasset. 1346 Montauk Hwy, Watermill. Monday, Wednesday, Thursday 9:30 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Friday, Saturday, Sunday 10 a.m.-5:30 p.m. Pumpkins are available.

Seven Ponds Orchard

About a 2 hour drive from Manhasset. 65 Seven Ponds Rd, Watermill. 631-726-8015. 9 a.m.-6 p.m. daily through Thanksgiving. Apples, berries, pumpkins, and seasonal vegetables are available along with a market, playground, and hayride.

Wickham’s Fruit Farm

28700 Main Rd, Cutchogue. 631-734-6441. 9 a.m.- 4:30 p.m. Monday through Saturday. Pumpkins are also available along with “Long Island’s Oldest Cider Press!”
