Apple Event 2019: What We Got Out of It and What’s to Come

On Tuesday, September 10, 2019, at the Steve Jobs Theatre in Cupertino, California, Apple announced the arrival of new products and features, like the three new iPhones (iPhone 11, iPhone 11 Pro, iPhone 11 Pro Max), and an upgraded seventh-generation version of the iPad with an even bigger screen display (10.2 inches to be exact). They also announced the new Apple Watch Series 5 with a new always-on display feature while still maintaining an 18-hour battery life, and the new Apple arcade along with a FREE (You heard me right FREE) 1-year trial for Apple TV plus with the purchase of any other Apple device. Truly, with all the new Apple products, it seems to be a new and exciting year in technology for both Apple and for us.

The new iPhone 11 offers a new feature called the slofie. In simple terms, the slofie is basically a slow-motion selfie. Was this necessary? No. Was Twitter amused? No. However, we did get new camera features other than the disastrous slofie, like the ultra-wide camera angle that’s for not only better picture quality, but also capturing the surroundings. This would probably be good in a situation where you wanted little focus on a person/object in a picture and more background. The other great thing about the new iPhone is that it’s going to have over 5 more hours in battery time and is said to be 20% faster. “What’s the best part?” you might be asking, well it’s the new colors, of course! The colors to debut this year are purple and olive green, and I’m not going to lie, that purple is gorgeous, but the green…not so much. Don’t get me wrong, the green is nice too, but it’s a little, eh. Anyway, some of the returning colors are red, yellow, black, and white. Generally, the pricing is pretty fair for this model mainly because it was cheaper than last year. Then again, this only applies to the iPhone 11($699), since the iPhone 11 Pro ($999) is an identical price as the iPhone X and the iPhone 11 Pro Max is just $100 more ($1,099). However, this is not including storage, wireless plans, and all the odds and ends. All the iPhone 11 models are currently on pre-order and are presumed to be sent out in October.

Next up: the new iPad. It’s pretty similar to the past iPads, but it’s bigger, has an improved brightness, and a brand-new keyboard case. It’s the same price as last year ($329). Generally, it’s the same thing as last year and it’s ready for all the new adventures you take it on. However, if you buy any of the new or the old Apple products you can receive a free trial for a year of Apple TV plus, so that’s pretty good if you want to get the new iPad.

Finally, the new Apple Watch Series 5 has a couple new features. For example it has a new always-on feature, which keeps the display on similar a regular watch. It also now keeps track of three new health features, hearing, heart and movement, and menstrual cycle tracking. It starts at $399 for GPS models and $499 for cellular models. However, it was also hinted that there may be ceramic models and titanium finish models on the way, although prices will vary.

Overall, the release of all these new products will truly push us forward technologically. For technology is one of our strongest tools and we must utilize it to our advantage. Clearly, our future of phones, tablets, and computers will always continue to progress. As Steve Jobs once said, “We are here to put a dent in our universe. Otherwise, why else even be here?”
