For the third time in the history of the United States of America, our president has been impeached. On December 18th, 2019, a House of Representatives with a majority of democrats voted that Donald Trump has violated his constitutional oath as President of the United States and his ability to preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States has been obstructed.
Trump was impeached due to him asking Ukrainian President Volodymyr Kerensky to look into a possibility that it was Ukraine and not Russia that interfered in the 2016 presidential election by hacking the Democratic National Committee. Trump also violated his powers by asking the Ukraine president to undergo an investigation of Joe Biden’s son Hunter Biden’s position on the board of a Ukrainian natural gas company, Burisma.
The majority of Americans do not know that Trump getting impeached does not mean he is being removed from office. In order to get removed from office, the senate must have 2/3 majority or 67 votes that support Trump’s impeachment. With a republican based senate, this is highly unlikely. However, what the democrats hope the impeachment has done is made the american public aware of trump’s actions and possibly sway them towards voting democratic.
